BUCCAL (BICHAT) FAT PAD RESECTION

The Bichat fat-pad resection is a surgical procedure by which removes or dissects a structure of the face known as the Bichat’s fat-pad, which sometimes makes a slimmer looking person overweighed or that is simply not in line with the body’s contour.

It is a surgery that is recommended in the following cases:

  • The face has an excessive roundness.
  • It is desired to differentiate the lower middle third of the face, making more pronounced cheekbones.
  • It is desired to give the face a more youthful appearance.

To carry out this surgery incisions should be made on the inside of the mouth of approximately 5 millimeters in length. Because the incisions are internal, the scars are hidden. Through these incisions the fat pockets are partially drawn.
This procedure takes about an hour to complete, and is done with local anesthesia. During the following week the patient should only consume liquids and also be very careful about oral hygiene.
