LOCALIZED ADIPOSITY

Is the accumulation of fat in small quantities in areas of the body that cause alterations in body contour. Is due to the accumulation of brown fat, which is rebellious to the physical activity. It is usually located in the abdomen (“lifeguard or rolls”) to the sides of the legs (" riding pants”), shoulder and back of the arms, back (“hump"), inside of knees, etc. This localized fat leads to loss of the body’s cosmetic lines.

There are thousands of recipes, diets, gymnastics, advices and all that we follow and what we pay attention in order to not accumulate fat, but there is something very basic: there are factors that facilitate the accumulation of fat. Women usually accumulate more fat in the thighs and hips, the men in the abdomen.

There are four factors that can facilitate adiposity:

  • Alcoholic beverages: every gram of alcohol has 7 kilocalories.
  • Smoking: Smokers have more fat in the abdomen than non-smokers.
  • Sugar and fat: the combination tends to increase the volume of the abdominal area.
  • Swimming: swimming in cold water increases the appetite and body fat accumulation as a mechanism for heat conservation. That is, it is known that swimming is a very complete sport, but in very cold water can have "side effects".

The hypodermis is made up of adipocytes grouped in lobules of approximately 1cm in diameter; they are separated by walls of connective tissue through which blood vessels and lymph vessels run.  From these walls others emerge surrounding the lobes with abundant micro capillaries resulting in a very vulnerable terminal structure.

Fat distribution differs with sex, in general we can say that is regulated by estrogen more precisely the 17 - beta estradiol. Women’s fatty tissue prevails in the lower body (fembot distribution) and especially in the subcutaneous tissue in the lower limbs, for men the distribution is in the upper half of the body, the abdomen (android distribution).

If we draw a dividing line passing through the navel and the 4th lumbar vertebral disc the upper half corresponds to of the male adipose location and the lower half to the female.

Regarding the hormonal changes, there is a greater predisposition for the development of fat cells, in the period of sexual differentiation especially women increase their body fat, in adolescence there is increased activity of the estrogen-dependent lipoproteolipase, which is who contributes triglycerides to the fat cells.

In the lipid metabolism there are lipolytic hormones: TSH, adrenaline, glucagon, ACTH and somatotropine hormone and the thyroid hormones.  The lypogenic hormones are mainly insulin and estrogen.

The fat cells also have 2-adrenergic receptors: B-Lipolytic and L2 antilipolytic. These are more distributed in the buttocks and upper thighs and that is why this area responds to medical treatment only and not to cosmetic treatments.

What's new for treating localized fat?

  • Induced micro currents: The method is based on the use of a device that works with multiple micro currents and is recommended in those patients who have adiposity and cellulite or flabbiness.

This methodology has the advantage of addressing several treatments simultaneously with a single machine and consists of the connection of a series of electrodes to a device of specific current generator, allowing the arrival of several types of waves that produce lipolysis in a non-traumatic way.

Two sessions per week for three months will be sufficient, but it always depends on each particular case.

  • Thermotherapy: This methodology is based on the heat that is generated by silicone bands wrapped around the patient in a localized way.

The interior of these bands contain tubes which emit high frequency waves. Once the treatment area has been covered the temperature of the bands is elevated above the bodies by two or three degrees. This is a tolerable and painless treatment that increases the metabolic activity of cells between two hundred and three hundred percent, resulting in the elimination of liquids and reducing adiposity.

Each session takes forty five minutes and results are immediate. Should be applied with a frequency of once or twice weekly for a period not less than three months.
